SECTION IV-6. ABSENCE AND VACANCY IN OFFICE OF MAYOR.
   (a)    When the Mayor is officially absent from the City or unable for any cause to perform his duties, the President of Council shall act as the Mayor with the same powers and duties as the Mayor and shall continue as Councilperson with all the powers and duties of a Councilperson.
   (b)    The Council shall elect, by a majority vote of all members of Council, one of its own members to succeed to the office of Mayor, if and when a vacancy occurs. The office of Mayor shall be considered vacant when the Mayor shall absent himself from four (4) consecutive regular Council meetings, except that Council by an affirmative vote of at least five (5) of its members may extend this period. Such member so elected shall serve as Mayor for the duration of the unexpired term. (Amended 11-6-18.)
