(a) Establishment. There is hereby established the position of Lifeguard Instructor (LGI). The LGI instructs the Lifeguard / CPR / First Aid / AED Course as offered by the Seven Hills Recreation Department. The LGI also must assist the Aquatics Supervisor in certifying and recertifying current lifeguards and employees in American Red Cross skills. Instructors must be knowledgeable, professional and show concern for the class participants.
(b) Required Qualifications for the Lifeguard Instructor.
(1) Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard & First Aid Training, CPR-PR, AED Essentials and American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
(2) Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures including blood borne pathogens
(3) Must have a working knowledge of teaching aids: Rescue Tubes, Mannequins, Spinal Boards, Sheppard's Crooks, AED's, etc…
(4) Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures including blood borne pathogens.
(5) Ability to complete Course Record Sheets and turn in to American Red Cross.
(6) Willingness to update skills by attending American Red Cross Courses when offered.
(c) Duties of the Lifeguard Instructor.
(1) Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly.
(2) Maintain order and class focus.
(3) Adhere to American Red Cross and Seven Hills Recreation Center Guidelines for Lifeguard Courses
(4) Work at appropriate skill level for each class.
(5) Plan each teaching class in advance: start class on time, with proper materials, and in proper attire (one-piece bathing suit for females & swim trunks for males).
(6) Maintain a high level of safety.
Deal with both students and parents in a professional manner.
(7) Evaluate swimming skills of students.
(8) Attend required workshops, meetings and training sessions to maintain current certification and teaching skills.
(9) Any other duties as assigned by Aquatics Supervisor, Recreation Director and Administrative Staff.
(d) Hourly Compensation Range for the Lifeguard Instructor.
$10.00 - $20.00 / hour
