(a) Establishment. There is hereby established the position of Water safety Instructor (WI). The WSI is a part-time position that reports directly to the Aquatics supervisor. WSI plans and delivers effective classes in the Learn To Swim Program for all ages and swim ability levels. Instructors must be knowledgeable, professional and show concern for the class participants.
(b) Required Qualifications of the Water Safety Instructor.
(1) Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguard (Optional) & First Aid Training, CPR-PR, AED Essentials and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
(2) Must have a working knowledge of teaching aids: Kickboards, pull buoys, diving rings etc.
(3) Maintain current knowledge of emergency procedures including blood borne pathogens.
(4) Ability to complete Course Record Sheets and Learn To Swim Report Cards
(5) Willingness to update skills by attending American Red Cross Courses when offered.
(c) Duties of the Water Safety Instructor.
(1) Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly.
(2) Maintain order and class focus.
(3) Adhere to American Red Cross and Seven Hills Recreation Center Guidelines for Learn To Swim
(4) Work at appropriate skill level for each class.
(5) Private Swim Lesson instruction
(6) Plan each teaching class in advance: start class on time, with proper materials, and in proper attire (one-piece bathing suit for females & swim trunks for males).
(7) Maintain a high level of safety.
(8) Deal with both students and parents in a professional manner.
(9) Evaluate swimming skills of students and place them in appropriate class.
(10) Attend required workshops, meetings and training sessions to maintain current certification and teaching skills.
(11) Any other duties as assigned by Aquatics Supervisor, Recreation Director and Administrative Staff.
(d) Hourly Compensation Range for the Water Safety Instructor.
Hourly Rate: Minimum Wage $18.00/hour
