All streets within the city shall be designated by appropriate name or number in such manner as the City Manager or the designee of the City Manager shall suggest in the first instance, taking into consideration the plan followed in naming and numbering the same in the original town and subsequent additions thereto, which suggestions, together with amendments or alterations, if any, desired by the City Council, shall be adopted from time to time by ordinance.
