§ 2-5-6 DISPOSITION OF IMPOUNDED ANIMALS.
   If the owner does not comply with all the requirements of this article within the time specified in this article, then the animal shall be deemed an abandoned or stray animal, and the animal shall become the property of the city. Thereafter, if the city shall have contracted with the impounding agency for disposition of such animals, the animal shall be disposed of by such agency in accordance with the provisions of the contract between the city and the agency, which contract shall include a requirement that the agency take effective steps, to be specified in the contract, to accomplish the vaccination of any dog or cat, not vaccinated against rabies, which is to be released by the agency. Otherwise, the animal may be destroyed, released to an institution for research purposes, adopted, or sold.
