For the purposes of this chapter, the zoning chapter of the town is divided into the following districts:

District | Abbreviation | Purpose |
Residential-Agricultural District | R-A | To retain the open characteristics and agricultural nature of the land |
Low-Density Residential District | R-1 | To provide areas in which the principal use of land is for single-family dwellings. The regulations of this district are intended to discourage any use which, because of its character, would be a nuisance to the development of single-family dwellings and would be detrimental to the quiet residential nature of the areas included within this district |
Medium-Density Residential District | R-2 | To provide for a variety of living styles including single-family, two-family and multi-family dwellings |
Residential-3 District | R-3 | To provide locations of single-, two- and multi-family dwellings at relatively high densities. Multi-family dwelling complexes are a conditional use in this district |
Mobile Home Residential District | R-3M | To provide areas for manufactured homes on individual lots, as well as other single-family residential uses. Mobile home parks are a conditional use in this district |
Downtown Business District | B-1 | To provide for those uses most appropriately located in the central commercial area of the town |
Highway Business District | B-2 | To provide areas for those retail trade and services uses which are properly located on major thoroughfares |
Neighborhood Business District | B-3 | To provide areas for those retail trade and office purposes which are properly located near residential areas, and which cater to the everyday needs of a residential neighborhood |
Office and Institutional District | OI | To provide for areas intended for institutional (public or private), compatible professional office uses, and residential use |
Light Industrial District | I-1 | To provide areas in which the principal use of land is for industries which can be operated in a relatively clean and quiet manner |
