§ 33.21 DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE.
   There is created hereby the office of Deputy Chief of Police, a Civilian Position exempt from appointment by the Village Fire and Police Commission. The Deputy Chief of Police shall be appointed by the Director of Police. The Deputy Chief of Police shall be selected from the rank of lieutenant, provided such officer has at least ten (10) years of full time service as a police officer within the department. The Deputy Chief of Police shall serve at the discretion of the Director of Police and, if removed, shall revert to the rank held immediately prior to appointment as Deputy Chief of Police.
   The Deputy Chief of Police shall provide those services as required or directed by the Director of Police. In the event there is a vacancy in the office of Director of Police or in the event the Director of Police is incapacitated or otherwise not able to perform the duties of the office, the Deputy Chief of Police shall have the same administrative powers and duties generally as that of the Director of Police, during any vacancy in that office or during the incapacity of the Director of Police. The Deputy Chief of Police shall possess such administrative powers and duties until such time as the vacancy in the office of Director of Police is filled, or until such time as the Director of Police is no longer incapacitated. Compensation for the Deputy Chief of Police shall be established from time to time by the President and Board of Trustees.
