§ 33.02 DUTIES.
   (A)   Classified Service. It shall be the duty of all Sworn Police Officers to see to the enforcement of all ordinances of the Village and all statutes, to obey the lawful orders of their superiors, and to preserve peace and prevent infractions of the law. Every Sworn Police Officer is hereby declared to be a Conservator of the Peace and shall have all of the powers of a police officer, including the power (i) to arrest or cause to be arrested, with or without process, all persons who break the peace or are found violating any municipal ordinance or any criminal law of the State, (ii) to commit arrested persons for examination, (iii) if necessary, to detain arrested persons in custody overnight or Sunday in any safe place or until they can be brought before the proper court, and (iv) to exercise all other powers as Conservators of the Peace prescribed from time to time by the President and Board of Trustees.
   (B)   Non-Classified Service.
      (1)   Civilians who are not Auxiliary Police Officers and who are not holding Civilian Positions may be hired from time to time by the Village President to undertake clerical work in accordance with orders given by the Chief of Police, including but not limited to dispatching and secretarial tasks.
      (2)   Although they shall be supervised by Village employees in the Classified Service pursuant to orders given by the Chief of Police or his duly authorized agents, Auxiliary Police Officers shall not be members of the regular Police Department and shall not supplement members of the regular Police Department. Auxiliary Police Officers shall not have Conservator of the Peace powers and shall only be assigned to perform the following duties: (i) to aid or direct traffic within the Village; (ii) to aid in control of natural or manmade disasters; and (iii) to aid in case of civil disorder as directed by a Village employee holding a Position in the Classified Service. When it is impractical for members of the regular Police Department to perform those normal and regular police duties, the Chief of Police may assign Auxiliary Police Officers to perform those normal and regular police duties.
