(A) The permittee holding an excavation permit shall maintain safe crossings for two lanes of traffic at all street intersections and safe crossings for pedestrians at intervals of not more than 300 feet. If any excavation is made across any public street, not more than one half of the width of the traveled way shall be disturbed at one time and the remaining width shall be kept open by bridging or backfilling. If the street is not wide enough to hold the excavated material without using part of the adjacent sidewalk, a passageway at least one half of the sidewalk width, or wheelchair width, whichever is greater, shall be maintained along such sidewalk line.
(B) Violation of this section shall be deemed an infraction.
