The municipal court shall have exclusive original jurisdiction and authority to impose the following fines and any fine allowed by law. However, no fine imposed shall be greater than that set out in Texas statutes.
A. A fine not to exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000.00) in all criminal cases arising under municipal ordinances that govern fire, safety, zoning, and public health and sanitation, other than vegetation and litter violations.
B. A fine not to exceed five hundred dollars ($500.00) in all other cases that arise under the city ordinances. (1988 Code § 1-4-1; amd. 2016 Code)
