1357.16 EXISTING BOATHOUSES OR SIMILAR STRUCTURES.
   (a)   Change of Use. The use of a boathouse or boatport shall not be changed unless or until the building and the building service equipment therein conforms to the requirement of this Code for buildings of the proposed new use.
   (b)   Part Change of Use. Part change of use of a boathouse, boatport, etc., shall be permitted if the portion of the building being changed is separated from the remainder of the structure with the required vertical and horizontal fire separation complying with this code.
   (c)   Alterations or Repairs. Alterations, renovations or repairs may be made to any boathouse, boatport, etc., without requiring the existing structure to comply with all the requirements of this Code provided the alteration or repair conforms to that required of a new structure; however, if the structure is increased in floor area or number of stories, the entire structure including boatwell, residential area, work area, storage areas, etc., shall be made to conform with the requirements of this Code in respect to means of egress, fire protection system, light and ventilation.
   Exception: Water level barriers as required under Section 1357.26(p) are not required in relation to additions, alterations or renovations of existing boathouses or similar structures as to any portion of the well area thereof which is not directly affected thereby when the installation of water level barriers in any such area is impracticable under the circumstances.
