§ 71.16 WEIGHT OF VEHICLES ON BRIDGES; PENALTIES.
   (A)   Any police officer having reason to believe that the weight of a vehicle and load, if any, is unlawful may require the driver to stop and submit to a weighing of same by proceeding to any private or public scale available for the purpose of determining whether the weight thereof is in excess of the permitted weight.
   (B)   No owner or operator of any vehicle, nor any lessee of a vehicle, nor owner-operator shall cause or allow a vehicle to be driven or moved upon or over a bridge when the weight of that vehicle and load, if any, exceeds the maximum weight limit established for such bridge by rule and regulation for traffic control pursuant to § 70.03(B) and posted on the approach to said bridge.
   (C)   (1)   Any person who is convicted of a violation of division (B) above shall be assessed a fine as prescribed by the Michigan Vehicle Code, Public Act 300 of 1949, being M.C.L. § 257.724.
      (2)   The court may impose the fine or jail sentence or both as provided by law for violations of ordinances of the city.
   (D)   For the purposes of this section any number of vehicles connected together shall constitute a single vehicle.
