§ 70.02 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   BUS. A motor vehicle designed for carrying more than ten passengers and used for the transportation of persons; and a motor vehicle, other than a taxicab, designed and used for the transportation of persons for compensation. It does not include a school bus or a bus equipped and used for living or camping purposes.
   CROSSWALK.
      (1)   The portion of a roadway ordinarily included within the prolongation or connection of the lateral lines of sidewalks at intersections.
      (2)   Any portion of a roadway distinctly indicated for pedestrian crossing by lines or other markings on the surface.
   MOTOR DRIVEN CYCLE. Every motorcycle, including every motor scooter, with a motor which produces not to exceed five maximum brake horsepower, and every bicycle with motor attached.
   POLICE OFFICER. Every officer of the Police Department or any officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.
   PUBLIC HOLIDAYS. As used in this title, include the following: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
   RESIDENCE DISTRICT. The portion of the city not defined as business district.
   RIGHT-OF-WAY. The privilege of the immediate preferential use of the roadway.
   ROADWAY. The portion of a street, park, or other public place which is designed or ordinarily used for vehicular travel.
   STANDING. Any stopping of a vehicle, whether occupied or not.
   STOP. When required, means complete cessation of movement.
   STOP or STOPPING. When prohibited, means any stopping of a vehicle except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the direction of a police officer or traffic- control sign or signal.
   TRAFFIC. Pedestrians, ridden or herded animals, vehicles, and other conveyances, either singly or together, while using any street for purposes of travel.
