If the retirement allowance of any member of this plan who is retired for disability is cancelled for any cause other than reentrance into city service, and if such member does not reenter city service, an amount which is the actuarial equivalent of his or her annuity at cancellation, based on a disabled life, but not to exceed the amount of his or her accumulated contributions at the time of his or her retirement for disability, shall be credited to his or her individual account and shall be refunded to him or her.
