If the right-of-way width for a street has not been designated in the adopted street standards or in the right-of-way width guidelines, or in an element of the general plan, or in any applicable specific plan, the dedication required for such street under this chapter shall conform to and be governed by the right-of-way width determined by the city's director of public works in accordance with standards that are commonly used for the design of a similar public street.
