Within the Old Sacramento historical area, the construction codes advisory and appeals board may grant variances to the exit requirements specified in Sections 3303 (h), 3305 (f), 4501 and 4507 of the Uniform Building Code for structures whose existing architectural and structural features are to be kept in their present design when the board finds that retaining such features is necessary to preserve the historical authenticity of such structures, and that retaining such features compiles with Section 2.48.070 of this code.
The board may require, as a condition of granting a variance under this section, the installation of guard rails or other protective devices for the exit facilities subject to such a variance.
The board may not grant variances under this section for stairways or steps which project more than two feet onto the public right-of-way. (Prior code § 9.07.353)
