Within the Old Sacramento historical area, sprinklers shall be used where necessary to compensate for the following exceptions which shall be permitted:
A. Street front façades of wood including sidewalks, balconies, canopies, columns, doors, windows, and signing;
B. Exterior wood stairways, balconies and canopies at the rear and/or interior court areas;
C. Wood windows and plain glass where protected openings might normally be required;
D. Other exterior wood detailing as required for historic authenticity;
E. Omission of parapet walls which would violate their historic street scene.
Sprinkler requirements may be modified to be harmonious with the historic environment but must in the judgment of the director, provide for the public safety and prevent the spread of fire from one property to another. (Prior code § 9.07.352)
