5.78.010   Legislative Intent.
   The purpose of this chapter is to protect hotel employees by requiring hotel operators to provide employees who clean guest rooms with panic buttons that they may use to alert hotel staff of threatening conduct by a hotel guest and other emergencies. Hotel operators are encouraged to provide notice to their hotel guests that the hotel provides panic buttons to hotel employees assigned to clean guest rooms and provide written notice to employees that the hotel operator has a sexual harassment policy to protect employees against sexual assault and sexual harassment by hotel guests and others. 5.78.020   Definitions.
   As used in this chapter:
   "Employee" means a natural person who works full- or part-time at a hotel for wages, salary, or remuneration of any type.
   "Guest room" means any room made available by a hotel for overnight occupancy by
         guests.
   "Hotel" has the same meaning as in section 3.28.020.
   "Operator" has the same meaning as in section 3.28.020.
   "Panic button" means a portable device that an employee can quickly and easily activate to summon to the employee's location hotel staff who are able to provide immediate aid and assistance. (Ord. O2020-0002 § 1)
5.78.030   Hotel panic button.
   Every operator shall provide a panic button to each employee who is assigned to work in a guest room or restroom. The operator of the hotel shall provide the panic button at no cost to the employee. (Ord. O2020-0002 § 1)
