§ 150.31 SPECIAL FIRE LIMIT REGULATIONS.
   (A)   The following special regulations apply to buildings and activities within the fire limit area to the extent that they do not fix less stringent standards as otherwise applicable pursuant to the town Building Code or applicable state fire laws or regulations.
      (1)   All wood frame buildings, other than residences, shall have the sides and roofs covered with sheet metal or other noninflammable material.
      (2)   Where residences, multi-family housing buildings, or rooming houses are to be re-roofed using asphalt shingles, slabs or composition roofing, the same shall not be placed over wood shingle roofing.
      (3)   No new wood-frame residence may be constructed in the fire limit area unless:
         (a)   The outer surfaces are covered by metal, brick, stone or other noninflammable materials;
         (b)   All built-in electrical wiring is enclosed in metal conduits; or
         (c)   A variance is obtained as hereafter provided.
      (4)   All liquids that might cause a fire or explosion shall be placed in steel drums or steel tanks when stored within the fire limit area.
      (5)   No person may burn any rubbish or other materials within the streets and alleys within the fire limit area.
   (B)   Existing buildings within the fire limit area shall not be required to be modified to comply with the above standards if lawfully erected in accordance with applicable fire limit regulations in effect at the time such building was erected, unless the Fire Chief, Building Inspector or Electrical Inspector finds upon inspection of such building that any noncomplying condition therein poses a clear and present fire danger to the occupants thereof or to surrounding buildings; however, the Building Inspector may require that any substantial repairs or modifications to an existing building comply with the above requirements, as applicable.
