Because of unusual soil conditions in the city, base footings larger than set forth in Table 29-A of the Structural Specialty Code shall be used in locations deemed necessary by the Building Official. In such instances, the required soils classification and footing design may be waived by the Building Official if the footing is 18 inches wide by 8 inches thick for 1-story buildings and 24 inches wide by 9 inches thick for 2-story buildings. The footings shall have not less than 2 No. 4 one-half inch steel reinforcing bars imbedded a minimum of 2 inches from any outside edge of the footing or the additional reinforcing required by the Building Official, depending upon the condition of the building site.
