For purposes of this chapter, the term "kennel" is defined to mean any establishment or premises wherein or whereon animals are kept for the purpose of breeding, boarding, sale, exchange or for sporting purposes, or wherein pet animals owned by another person or entity are temporarily boarded for pay or remuneration of any sort. Kennel shall not apply to zoos or animal hospitals operated by veterinarians duly licensed under the law where the boarding of animals is accessory to medical treatment or rescue or temporary care and custody.
