8-3-8: REDEMPTION OF IMPOUNDED DOGS:
   A.   Licensed Dogs: If any dog for which the license fee for the current year has been paid is impounded or taken up for being at large without a collar or harness and license tag, the owner, in order to redeem such dog, shall be required by satisfactory proof to affirm that such dog was so licensed and that the collar or harness with tag attached had been placed and kept about the body of such dog, but that such collar or harness and tag was lost or taken from such dog; and the owner shall be required to pay a fee of thirty dollars for the taking up or impounding of such dog and the payment of the cost of keeping such dog while impounded. If, after five days from the time of impounding, all normal attempts to contact the owner of such dog have failed, such dog may be disposed of by a licensed veterinarian engaged by the police department.
   B.   Unlicensed Dogs: Any unlicensed dog which shall have been impounded may be redeemed by the owner of such dog on payment of the sum of thirty dollars as a fee for taking up or impounding such dog, plus the annual license fee provided herein, and the cost of keeping such dog while impounded. If any such dog be not redeemed within three days after being impounded, such dog may be disposed of by a licensed veterinarian engaged by the police department. (Ord. 3226, 4-14-2008)
