It shall be unlawful for any person to be the owner of a dog within the village unless he shall procure a license therefor. Said license shall be obtained on or before May 1 in each year, except for a dog less than four months old, in which case a license shall be procured when the dog attains such age. If a dog is acquired after May 1, a license shall be obtained within five days after acquisition or when the dog is four months old, whichever event is the later. (1981 Code)
