7-1-1: COMPOSITION:
   A.   Officers: The fire department shall consist of the fire chief, one deputy chief, five lieutenants and fifteen firefighters, and such additional members of the fire department as may be, from time to time, provided for by the president and board. (Ord. 3073, 4-26-2004)
The position of firefighter/paramedic is hereby created in the fire department. Said position shall be filled by paid on call firefighter/paramedics until such time as the current regular firefighters become licensed and certified paramedics able to function in the emergency medical system under which the fire department operates an advanced life support service.
Effective July 1, 1997, all new firefighters employed by the fire and police commission shall be licensed paramedics by the Illinois department of public health and certified to function in the emergency medical system under which the fire department operates an advanced life support service as a condition of employment. All firefighters hired after July 1, 1997, shall maintain their paramedic license and certification as a condition of continued employment.
   B.   Paid On Call Firefighter/Paramedics: There may be appointed by the fire chief, with approval of the president and board, fourteen or more persons who shall be designated "paid on call firefighter/paramedics". The paid on call firefighter/paramedics shall be subject to such rules and regulations as shall be prescribed by the fire chief and approved by the president and board. (Ord. 2750, 12-8-1997)
