149.16  PROBATIONARY PERIOD; SALARY.
   Notwithstanding any other provision of these Codified Ordinances, every full time City employee hired and every City employee who begins full time employment on or after July 2, 1990 shall be employed for a probationary period of six months’ duration.  During the probationary period, the employee shall be paid at an hourly rate representing fifty cents (50¢) per hour less than the lowest rate then established for the job classification for which the employee is hired or begins full-time work.  At the expiration of the probationary period, the employee’s performance shall be evaluated, and if the employee’s continued employment is approved by Council, the employee shall be paid at the lowest hourly rate established for the employee job classification, which rate shall be effective from the first day following the expiration of the employee’s probationary period.  Police officers salary alone shall increase $1.57 per hour at the end of their probationary period to make a beginning salary of $11.50 per hour.  In addition, all new employees will receive a pro-rata share of any annual raises given on July 1st, based on the number of months worked prior to July 1st.
   Example:  An employee is hired on March 1.  That employee will have four months of qualifying service by July 1.  If the raise is a $1,000, then the employee will be entitled to $333.33.
•   Total months of service divided by 12(4/12=.333)
•   Percentage multiplied by raise (.333 x $1000=$333.33)
•   Dollar amount converted to hourly rate ($333.33/2080=$.16/hr)
