(a) All full-time City employees shall accrue vacation in the following manner:
Employees with one to five years of service may accrue ten (10) hours of vacation for each calendar month of service, and may carry no more than (120) hours of vacation into the next calendar year.
Employees with five to ten years of service may accrue twelve (12) hours of vacation for each calendar month of service, and may carry no more than (144) hours of vacation into the next calendar year.
Employees with ten to fifteen years of service may accrue fourteen (14) hours of vacation for each calendar month of service, and may carry no more than (168) hours of vacation into the next calendar year.
Employees with fifteen or more years of service may accrue sixteen (16) hours of vacation for each calendar month of service and may carry no more than (192) hours of vacation into the next calendar year.
Employees are to work eight (8) hours in a calendar month to accrue vacation time.
Employees may not carry any more vacation time into the next calendar year than what he/she has accrued for their time of service with the City.
Vacation time will be accrued on a calendar year and will run from January 1, to December 31, of each year. The employee’s anniversary date will not be used for accrued vacation time.
(b) Vacations shall be scheduled in accordance with the following:
Vacation time may be taken as needed on a two (2) hour minimum basis; emergency absences may be used on an hour for hour basis.
Vacation will be scheduled thirty (30) days in advance if possible, (emergency vacation will be addressed as needed) in order for the supervisor to make the changes in the schedule to cover the employee’s time off. Supervisors are responsible for scheduling vacation within their departments and resolving any conflicts between employees requesting vacation time.
No more than one employee may be scheduled off for vacation during the same week, except for the week of Thanksgiving, when no more than two employees from the same department may be scheduled off at the same time.
Vacation preference shall be given to the employee with the greatest number of years of service to the City, up to a maximum of two (2) weeks.
Holidays do not count against an employee’s vacation time, if a holiday falls while the employee is on vacation.
Employees may use vacation time to recover from illness or injury only after all sick time has been used by the employee.
In the event an employee finds other employment, or his/her employment is terminated by the City, he/she shall be paid for their accumulated vacation time up to twenty (20) days; the same shall apply to any employee who retires from the City.
If an employee dies, then his/her beneficiary shall be paid for any accumulated vacation time up to twenty (20) days.
For the purposes of vacation scheduling, departments of the City are deemed to be as follows:
(1) Police Department.
(2) Water Plant.
(3) General Maintenance.
A. Streets.
B. Garbage.
C. Water Maintenance.
D. Sewer Maintenance.
(4) Any and all other office personnel that work for the City as a full-time employee.
Note: Employees that are on probation do not accrue any vacation or sick leave time. (9-2-03)
