Whenever a person is about to be confined under this Code, the keeper thereof, or any officer making the arrest, shall search the person to be confined and remove from him or her all dangerous weapons, money or other valuables. The property so taken from the person shall be kept in a place of safety by such keeper or officer and restored to the custody of the person from whom it was taken upon his or her release.
