For every person, firm or corporation operating or carrying on the business of driving any automobile, truck or other vehicle for transportation of baggage, express, freight, household goods, materials, goods, wares, or merchandise, and receiving compensation, either directly, or indirectly for such operation, shall pay a license fee of twenty dollars ($20.00) semiannually for the first vehicle and seven dollars fifty cents ($7.50) semiannually for each additional vehicle.
