A. Under the Family and Medical Leave Act, an eligible employee may request up to a total of 12 work weeks of unpaid leave during any twelve-month period at the time of the birth or adoption of a child or at the time of a serious health condition affecting the employee or a family member (as defined by the Act).
B. An eligible employee (as defined by the Act) is one who has been employed by the City for at least 12 months and for at least 1,250 hours of service with the City during the previous 12 months prior to the leave requested.
C. Employees are entitled to unpaid leave of absence in compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act as outlined in the employee handbook. The following provisions shall apply to full-time employees only:
(1) At the discretion of the Human Resources Director and Managing Director, emergency leave may be granted to an employee who has an extraordinary personal emergency that is not covered by any of the forms of leave detailed herein.4
