A. All persons within the City shall source separate and recycle all designated recyclable materials generated by such person or generated within any dwelling unit, multi-dwelling unit or nonresidential unit occupied by such person. [Amended 1-25-2021 by Ord. No. 8-2021]
B. Designated recyclable materials shall include:
(1) Single stream recycling to include at least three materials chosen from: clear glass, colored glass, aluminum, steel and bimetallic cans, high-grade office paper, newsprint, corrugated paper, and plastics;
(2) Yard waste; [Amended 12-27-2021 by Ord. 98-2021]
(3) Electronic waste;
(4) Tires.
C. The Public Works Director, or his/her designee, shall determine the current list of recyclable materials designated as single stream. This designation process shall consider operations, public education, marketability, program sustainability, and other conditions when making the City's official list of designated recyclable materials. Residents can find the current list of single stream materials by visiting Public Works or the Citizens Service Center, accessing the Public Works section of the City's website (www.ReadingPa.gov), or contacting the City.
D. Nothing shall preclude individuals, businesses, or other entities from recycling additional items through private recycling programs or other means consistent with this Part; however, no additional items shall be accepted for collection as part of the municipal collection program.
