Any person charged with the enforcement of this chapter, while acting for the City, shall not thereby render himself or herself personally liable, and he or she is relieved hereby from all personal liability for any damage that may accrue to persons or property as a result of any act required or permitted in the discharge of his or her duties. Any suit instituted against any officer, employee or appointee because of an act performed by him or her in the lawful discharge of his or her duties shall be defended by the legal representative of the City. In no case shall any such officer, employee or appointee be liable for costs in any action, suit or proceeding that may be instituted in pursuance of the provisions of this chapter when he or she performs his or her duties in good faith. For the purposes of this chapter, any person who has been assigned duties by the Mayor or Council pursuant to this chapter shall be considered an employee of the City and shall be entitled to the provisions of this section.
