§ 34.40 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of §§ 34.40 et seq., the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   ACCUSED. Any person charged with a violation of any provision of this code or other ordinance of the city imposing a penalty through a quasi-criminal proceeding in the Municipal Court.
   BAIL BOND. A contract between any surety and the city to the effect that an accused and surety will appear in the Municipal Court when required and will comply with all conditions of the bond.
   DEFENDANT. Any person accused of a violation of any provision of this code or other ordinance of the city imposing a penalty through a quasi-criminal proceeding in the Municipal Court.
   POLICE OFFICER, LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER, PEACE OFFICER, or OFFICER. Any full- or part-time salaried officer who by virtue of his or her office or public employment is vested by law with the duty to maintain the public peace.
   RECOGNIZANCE. An obligation of record entered into before the Municipal Court requiring the accused to appear at all appropriate times or forfeit any bail and subjecting the accused to criminal penalty for failure to appear.
   RELEASE ON PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE. Release of a defendant without bail, bail bond, or surety upon the person’s promise to appear at all appropriate times.
