1-6A-2: CITY ATTORNEY; DUTIES:
   A.   The city attorney shall be the chief legal officer of the city and shall be responsible for all legal matters pertaining to the city. It shall be the duty of the city attorney to prosecute or defend all suits of any nature which may be begun by or against the city, or in which the city may be an interested party. He shall see to the enforcement or collection of all judgments, orders and decrees entered in favor of the city. He shall be the legal adviser to the city council and to the boards and commissions of the city, city administrator or staff. He shall give advice or opinions and perform legal services on any legal subject upon request of the mayor, council or city administrator. The city attorney shall render opinions on city bond issues. He shall attend all regular and special meetings of the city council, and assist the council in its deliberations upon the request of any member.
   B.   The city attorney shall review all contracts, leases, assignments, deeds, or other legal documents entered into or executed by or on behalf of the city before the same shall be executed, provided that this provision shall not be construed as affecting the legality and validity of any such instrument which has been executed without the review of the city attorney.
