There are created the offices of city attorney and city prosecutor, each of whom shall be appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council. As used in this chapter, the term "legal counsel" shall mean the city attorney and city prosecutor. The city attorney and the city prosecutor shall be an individual or law firm licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois. They shall each serve for an indefinite term, their employment to be terminated either by resignation or by removal by the mayor with the approval of the city council. The mayor, with the advice and consent of the city council, may appoint the same individual or law firm to serve in both positions. (Ord. 0-04-09, 2-17-2004, eff. 2-27-2004)
