The streets and intersections described below are hereby declared to be through streets and stop intersections as so designated, unless otherwise directed by traffic-control signal or a police officer. When stop signs are placed at the entrances to through streets or stop intersections, the driver of the vehicle approaching the signs shall stop as required by law at any marked line on the roadway, or if none, before entering any crosswalk or the intersection.
