2-204: COUNCIL MEMBERS ALLOWED TO SERVE AS VOLUNTEERS WITHIN THE CITY:
   A.   An elected member of the city council, in addition to his or her duties on the council, may also serve as a volunteer within the city. Any council member serving in such dual capacity shall abide by all the rules and regulations of the department and shall be under the authority of all officers of the department and all other superior officers of the city when acting in the capacity of that department. A council member serving in such dual capacity shall not use his or her position on the council to seek advancement or to gain any type of benefit not available to any other member of that department. Any council member serving in such dual capacity shall not receive compensation for his or her duties, provided however, that said council member shall receive all other noncompensatory benefits. Fire department pension benefits of any council member who served as a firefighter before serving as a member of the council shall not be affected by subsequent service on the city council.
   B.   Said council member may not serve in a supervisory position within that department when serving as a volunteer. (Ord. 394, 1-9-2006)
