1280.07   PERMANENT SIGN SIZE RESTRICTIONS.
   (a)   Church or Institutional Signs.  A sign on the premises of an institution, to display the activities or services provided therein, not to exceed twelve square feet in area, at least fifteen feet from the street pavement, is permitted.
   (b)   Multiple Housing Project Signs.  The following signs are permitted:  one on-premises sign indicating the name of the multiple housing project, not to exceed twelve square feet; one identification sign per building, not to exceed two square feet; and, for rental and/or management offices, one identification sign not to exceed two square feet.
   (c)   Commercial Property Signs; Village Center Commercial District.
      (1)   All signs shall carry the name of the business and be directly related to the business or service provided on the property where the sign is located.
      (2)   All properties may have two signs.
      (3)   For plazas, one flush-mounted wall sign with letters a maximum of eighteen inches in height with the entire height of the sign no more than twice the height of the letters, and fitting compatibly into the gabled pediment or building parapet, above the front doorway.
      (4)   For all other signs, the size of a flush-mounted sign on the facade shall not exceed the size restrictions applicable to hanging or free-standing signs as described in paragraph (c)(5) hereof.
      (5)   The second sign permitted for each business shall be limited to either one of the types indicated below:
         A.   Hanging signs.  Hanging signs shall not exceed nine square feet nor extend more than four feet from the face of the building.  they shall be placed at a height permitting at least eight feet of clearance beneath the sign.  Signs to be affixed to a building are to be safe for a pedestrian walking underneath and shall cause no damage to the building.
         B.   Free-standing signs.  Each business shall be permitted three square feet of signing per ten feet of street or building frontage, not to exceed twenty-five square feet per business and so placed behind the front setback line as to not obstruct traffic.
      (6)   In buildings containing more than one business, there may be more than one flush-mounted sign as permitted by paragraph (c)(4) above, with the limitation that the total square footage shall not exceed twenty square feet, to be apportioned according to the percentage of the building occupied.  There shall be only one hanging or free-standing sign as permitted by paragraph (c)(5) hereof.
   (d)   Historic Commercial District.  All signs in this District must be approved by the Board as to size, content, color and placement on a property.
   (e)   Residential Districts; Conditional Use.  Signs shall be permitted as per Section 1272.01(c)(4)H.
   (f)   Professional Nameplates.  Professional nameplates shall not exceed two square feet and shall not be illuminated.
   (g)   Home Occupations.  Not to exceed two square feet and not to be illuminated.
   (h)   Awnings.  No continuous awnings are permitted.  However, canvas awnings may be permitted above individual windows or doorways not to exceed four feet in width.  No awnings shall extend farther than four feet from the building face.  Color and design must be approved by the Board.
