The members of the board of fire and police commissioners shall have such qualifications as are now or may hereafter be required of them by law. Each member of the board shall take oath or affirmation of office and shall execute and deliver to the city a bond in the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) with such sureties as the mayor and city council shall approve, conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of his office.
