A. The board of supervisors of the county has the authority, under A.R.S. Sections 11-251(11) and 11-251(14), to settle and allow all accounts legally chargeable against the county and to control the prosecution and defense of all actions in which the county is a party.
B. From time to time during the course of a fiscal year, certain services are provided to and by the county under the terms of contracts and other agreements and certain claims arise against and in favor of the county, and for the following:
1. Matters appropriate for monetary settlement occur during the course of a fiscal year;
2. These contracts, agreements, claims and settlements provide for the maintenance and operation of the county, funding for which is set forth as line items in approved departmental budgets;
3. In order to expedite the processing of the large number of these contracts, agreements, claims and settlements it is desirable that the county administrator be empowered to take certain action to further the prompt processing of such contracts, agreements, claims and settlements.
C. The county administrator or his designate is authorized to sign such contracts and agreements involving sums which do not exceed ten thousand dollars to compromise lawful claims against and in favor of the county in sums which do not exceed ten thousand dollars and to compromise and settle for sums which do not exceed ten thousand dollars, lawsuits in which the county, the board of supervisors or any board, commission, agency, officer, agent or other representative or entity thereof is a party.
D. A monthly listing of such contracts, agreements and settlements signed under the provisions of this chapter shall be presented by the county administrator or his designee monthly at a regular board meeting for incorporation into the records and minutes of the board of supervisors.
