SECTION 8.05. VACANCIES.
   In case of death, disqualification, removal from office or resignation of the Mayor, the Council President shall become the Mayor for the unexpired term of the Mayor and shall cease to be a Council member.
   A vacancy in the office of Council President shall be filled by the Council Vice President becoming Council President, and the office of Vice President shall be filled by Council. If Council fails to fill the Vice President vacancy within sixty (60) days after the occurrence of the vacancy, then the power of Council to do so shall lapse and the Mayor shall fill it by appointment.
   Whenever the office of a Council member becomes vacant for any reason, the vacancy shall be filled by a qualified person by Council. If the vacancy occurs on or after July 1 of the second year of the vacated officer's term, the person nominated by Council shall serve for the unexpired term. If the vacancy occurs on or before June 30 of the second year of the vacated officer's term, the qualified person nominated by Council shall serve until a successor is elected at the next regular municipal election. The person so elected shall take office on January 1 following such election for the remainder of the vacated Council member's term. If Council fails to fill a Council member's vacancy within sixty (60) days after the occurrence of the vacancy, then the power of Council to do so shall lapse and the Mayor shall fill it by appointment.
