The city is in the process of developing a stormwater utility in accordance with state and federal regulatory requirements. The purpose of this stormwater utility is to manage combined sewer overflows which occur during wet weather, generating pollutant discharge into rivers and streams into the area. The stormwater utility services are confined solely to the area of combined sewers in the older, urbanized areas of Peru. Therefore, services of the stormwater utility will not be extended into any annexation area because no combined sewers will be allowed in any further development.
