The municipal emergency services includes a number of specific functions which are not directly related to police and fire protection, but include responses to traffic accidents, personal injuries, and other human emergency situations, through the city's EMS network. The Peru EMS resources have a working contract with Peru Township where municipal EMS services are afforded the unincorporated township through a service contract. The emergency services are primarily funded through property taxes and other local revenues, therefore, any area being annexed to the incorporate municipality would result in a revenue reduction from the Township for EMS services, along with a simultaneous increase in property tax revenue to the municipality as a result of the annexation.
