The service lateral and connection to the main sewer shall be constructed as follows:
(a) The service lateral shall be one of the following:
(1) Of best quality salt glazed hub and spigot vitrified sewer pipe with premium joint;
(2) Of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) sewer pipe and fittings conforming to ASTM designation D3034, SDR-35.
(b) No service lateral shall have an internal diameter of less than six inches.
(c) No more than two buildings shall be connected to a service lateral.
(d) The minimum slope for a six-inch diameter service lateral shall be one percent (1%).
(e) A sufficient number of cleanouts shall be provided to allow the property owner to clean the full length of the service lateral.
(f) No trap shall be placed in the service lateral.
(g) The connection of the service lateral at its junction with the main sewer shall be well and solidly supported so that the weight of the fill will not settle the line. Service laterals shall in general be above and near the spring line of the pipe, never in the top of the main sewer. Service laterals are permitted into manholes only in accordance with the current standard construction specifications of the City.
(h) After a service lateral is installed and before it is covered and used, it shall be inspected and approved by the Director of Public Utilities or his or her authorized agent.
