6-1-2: MEMORIAL ROADWAY SIGNAGE PROGRAM:
   A.   A memorial roadway signage program is hereby established, it being the intent of the village to acknowledge the contributions of certain of its citizens to the community of Pawnee.
   B.   Annually, the village president shall appoint an ad hoc application review committee consisting of five (5) citizens, with the advice and consent of the village board. The ad hoc committee shall meet to review applications and shall make recommendations to the village board with respect to the applications received.
   C.   An application shall be made to the village office on or before May 1 of each calendar year. The application shall include the following information:
      1.   The name of the applicant;
      2.   The name of the person being honored;
      3.   The name of the street upon which the applicant wishes to post the memorial sign;
      4.   The length of time that the person to be honored was a resident of Pawnee;
      5.   A narrative stating the nature of person's contributions to the village community and why, in the opinion of the applicant, the person should be honored.
   D.   Within sixty (60) days of the close of the application period, the ad hoc application committee shall rank all applications for the year and submit a recommendation to the village board as to the applications in ranked order. The village board shall then, by motion made, seconded and adopted, announce the winning applications for the year. There shall be no more than two (2) winning applications each year.
   E.   The winning applicants shall submit a one hundred dollar ($100.00) fee, and the village street department shall see to the production and erection of the memorial signs.
   F.   No person shall be honored with a memorial sign more than once. Memorial signs shall be taken down on or about July 1 of each year and returned to the applicant. (Ord. 10-25, 7-26-2010)
