(a) Generally. The Code Enforcement Officer’s focus and responsibility ranges from a different number of areas. The Code Enforcement Officer is the person employed by the city to enforce all local ordinances and must be able to do the following:
(1) Ensure properties and buildings within the corporate limits of the city follow the requirements and expectations set forth in the city ordinance manual;
(2) Investigate the abandonment of vehicles and structures;
(3) Inspect properties and buildings to the determine the nature of environmental or health hazards;
(4) Investigate reports of nuisance violations and unsafe building conditions;
(5) Answer questions from the public regarding city ordinances;
(6) Enforce city ordinance and issue citations for violations as needed; and
(7) All other duties as required by the Mayor, Chief of Police, or City Administrator.
(b) Requirements. The following are required as a Code Enforcement Officer under the Police Department and city:
(1) Must have a valid West Virginia driver’s license;
(2) Must be able to obtain and maintain any training or qualifications as set forth by the Police Department and the city; and
(3) Must be able to obtain and maintain a law enforcement based firearms qualification.
