The Chief of Police, subject to the authority of the Mayor as specified in W. Va. Code 8-10-1, shall be the head of the Police Department and the commanding officer thereof. He or she shall be responsible for the administration, training, discipline, and morale of the personnel of the Department and for their effective and efficient employment to prevent crime, apprehend law violators, protect persons and property, maintain law and order, and enforce state law, this code, and other ordinances within the city.
