6-3-1: DEFINITIONS:
ALTERED DOG: Any dog, either male or female, which has been neutered.
AT LARGE: Off the premises of the owner and not under the control of the owners, or other persons acting for the owner.
COLLAR: A band, chain, harness or suitable device worn around the neck of a dog to which a license may be affixed.
DOG: A member of the Canis familiaris family.
KENNEL: Any establishment, exclusive of one providing dental, medical or surgical care or for quarantine purposes, which maintains more than five (5) animals of the same species over four (4) months of age.
OWNER: Any person owning, keeping, possessing, harboring or maintaining an animal.
PET SHOP: Any commercial establishment at which any animal is kept for sale, bathed, groomed, clipped or treated for vermin.
POUND: Any establishment authorized by the town enforcement agent for the confinement, maintenance, safekeeping and control of animals that come into the custody of the town enforcement agent in the performance of his official duties.
POUND ASSISTANT: Volunteer person over the age of twenty one (21) years so designated to act in such capacity by the town enforcement officer, who has filed with the town clerk a written acknowledgment signed by a veterinarian that such person has received sufficient training to administer a parvo virus and distemper vaccine and a written waiver and release signed by such person, on a form approved by the town attorney, waiving and releasing all claims against the town, its employees, or agents, arising from sickness or injuries to such person incurred while acting in such capacity.
TOWN ENFORCEMENT AGENT: Any person designated by the town who is responsible for the enforcement of this chapter and the regulations promulgated hereunder.
VACCINATION: An antirabies vaccination, parvo virus vaccination and distemper vaccination using types of vaccines approved by the state veterinarian.
VETERINARIAN: Any veterinarian license to practice in Arizona or any veterinarian employed in Arizona by a governmental agency.
VETERINARY HOSPITAL: Any established hospital operated by a veterinarian licensed to practice in the state of Arizona that provides clinical facilities and houses animals for dental, medical or surgical treatment. A "veterinary hospital" may have adjacent to it or in conjunction with it or as an integral part of it, pens, stalls, cages or kennels for quarantine, observation or boarding.
