The council shall by resolution designate through streets, intersections where stops are required, and intersections where vehicles shall yield the right of way. When any resolution of the council shall designate any through street or intersection where vehicles are to stop or yield the right of way, the police chief shall erect and maintain the appropriate signs at every location where a vehicle must stop or yield the right of way.
