§ 98.068 STANDARDS.
   (A)   All driveways shall be constructed in accordance with the standards illustrated on the drawing entitled “Town Driveway Regulations Driveway Standards,” dated April 14, 1997, last revised October 30, 1997, as prepared by Donald W. Smith. Jr., P.E. Town Engineer and the following additional standards. See Appendix B.
   (B)   The driveway shall have a minimum clearance of 15 feet in height.
   (C)   In order to prevent “bottoming-out” of vehicles, changes in grade shall be connected by a vertical curve that limits the change in vertical grade to no more than eight one-hundredths feet per foot (nine and one-half inches in ten feet). The applicant shall submit a profile of the proposed driveway, in order to demonstrate compliance with this standard, if requested by the Driveway Enforcement Officer.
   (D)   Driveways longer than 250 feet shall have a 50-foot by 50-foot (or a 60-foot diameter circular) gravel or paved surface turnaround area located within 100 feet of the structure for use by emergency service apparatus.
   (E)   Driveways longer than 500 feet shall have a 12-inch by 12-inch sign posted at the streetline of the driveway entrance which indicates the house number (three-inch letters) and length of the driveway in feet (one-inch letters), from the road to the structure.
   (F)   A curve with a minimum centerline radius of 40 feet shall be provided at any point where the alignment of the driveway exceeds a 45-degree angle.
   (G)   A 200-foot minimum sight distance, in each direction, shall be provided on all residential driveways on town roads. The minimum sight distance provided for driveways on state highways and for all commercial and industrial driveways shall be determined by the State Highway Engineer or the Town Engineer on a case by case basis with consideration given to traffic volumes, speed and roadway geometry. Sight distance shall be measured from a point located ten feet from the edge of the roadway pavement, with a three and one-half foot eye height and a four and one-quarter foot object height.
   (H)   Highway drainage or natural flow within the public highway right-of-way shall be maintained and shall not be adversely impacted. Suitable drainage structures and a minimum 12-inch diameter pipe or other necessary drainage improvements shall be provided, as required by the Town Engineer.
   (I)   Driveways longer than 500 feet shall be widened at 300-foot (maximum) intervals to allow passing of vehicles.
   (J)   Land that is adjacent to driveways that has been disturbed by filling, grading or excavation shall be finished to a slope no steeper than one foot vertical to three feet horizontal and suitably stabilized to prevent erosion.
   (K)   All driveways that connect to roadway with a paved travelway shall have a paved apron, constructed in accordance with the drawing entitled Driveway Standards. See Appendix B. The paved apron shall have a minimum thickness of one and one-half inches and shall be constructed as one contiguous piece.
   (L)   The number of driveways allowed on a lot shall be based upon the frontage of the lot as follows:

Lot Frontage
Driveways Required
125 feet of frontage or less
1 driveway
126 feet to 250 feet
2 driveways
251 feet to 500 feet
3 driveways
More than 500 feet
4 driveways
