§ 50.020 SPECIFICATIONS FOR BUILDING SEWERS.
   (A)   The building sewer shall be connected to the public sewer at the curb, easement line, or property line, only by authorized agents of the utility, if a service branch is available at a suitable location. Where no properly located service branch is available, an authorized agent of the utility shall cut a neat hole into the main line of the public sewer and a suitable wye or tee saddle shall be installed to receive the building sewer. The invert of the building sewer at such joint of connection with a wye saddle shall be in the upper quadrant of the main line of the public sewer. A neat workmanlike connection not extending past the inner surface of the public sewer shall be made, and the saddle shall be made secure and watertight by encasement in concrete or with Epoxy cement specially prepared for this purpose.
   (B)   All parts of the building sewer, pipes, joints, and fittings, shall be constructed of clay, polyvinyl chloride (P.V.C.), acryonitrile-butadiene styrene (A.B.S.), or ductile-iron pipe unless otherwise approved by the utility.
   (C)   The size and slope of the building sewer shall be large enough to carry the amount and kind of sewage generated from the building. Four-inch pipe may be used on single-family units. The minimum slope for four-inch pipe shall be l.6 feet per 100 feet or 3/16-inch per foot. The minimum slope for six-inch pipe shall be l.0 foot per 100 feet or 1/8-inch per foot.
   (D)   No building sewer shall be laid parallel to within three feet of any bearing wall which might thereby be weakened. The building sewer shall be laid at uniform grade and in straight alignment insofar as possible. Changes in direction shall be made with properly curved pipe and fittings. All sewers shall be laid to line and grade by use of string and batter boards over the ditch.
   (E)   In all buildings in which any building drain is too low to permit gravity flow to the public sewer, sanitary sewage carried by that drain shall be lifted by approved artificial means and discharged to the building sewer. No toilets will be permitted unless specialized pumps are installed in duplicate and approved by the utility. The sump for the washer and showers shall be above the floor. No groundwater, foundation drains, or water seeping into the basement shall be permitted to enter or mix with the sanitary sewage.
   (F)   All joints and connections shall be made in accordance with the manufacturer's directions.
   (G)   At the discretion of the Superintendent, he will make a smoke test to determine if there are any leaks or illegal connections. The owner, at his expense, shall repair all leaks in new and old sewers and shall remove connections to roof drains, cellar foundations, and all other unpolluted water.
